Does He Kneel From Strength, or Neediness?

It is Friday night.
You are in the good chair with a gin, the lamp turned low and your shoes abandoned somewhere across the room. He is kneeling at your feet, forehead lowered, exactly where you told him to be.
The house is quiet. His attention is yours. The evening has finally learned its place.
Lovely.
But two men can kneel in precisely the same position and offer a woman two entirely different experiences.
One kneels from strength. He can stand perfectly well on his own, and kneels anyway, because he has chosen to yield to her.
The other kneels from neediness. He is down there hoping she will tell him he is good, wanted and worth keeping.
The posture is identical.
Only one of them, however, is attractive.
Watch what happens after the task
He brings your drink and places it at your right hand, just as he was taught.
The secure man turns and leaves. Delivered means delivered. Finished means finished. There is no emotional invoice tucked beneath the coaster.
The needy man, meanwhile, lingers.
Only for half a second, perhaps, but his eyes rise towards yours. He is waiting for the nod, the smile, the good boy. Some warm little morsel confirming that his service counted and his place remains safe.
He wants paying.
Not in money, naturally. That would be simpler.
He wants reassurance.
That is the test:
Does the task end when it is finished, or when you react?
Can he stand before he kneels?
Strength does not mean strutting about the house resisting your authority and calling it independence. Heaven spare us.
A strong submissive man can yield without collapsing. He has his own work, standards, judgement and backbone. He remains a whole man when he stands, and places that man beneath your authority.
His submission is something he gives you.
The needy man kneels to escape standing. Submission becomes somewhere to hand over his decisions, his self-respect and responsibility for how he feels, all tied up with a ribbon and labelled service.
He does not merely want your authority. He wants you to hold him together.
That is quite a lot of luggage to leave beside a woman’s chair.
When his submission becomes your work
A needy man does not ask for reassurance once. He collects it constantly, in tiny amounts.
You praise him after dinner, and by the time the plates are dry he needs topping up. You are affectionate in the morning, and at lunchtime he is inspecting your expression to see whether the affection has expired.
Go quiet for an afternoon and he spends the evening asking, in a hundred wordless ways, whether he is still your good boy.
You created a Female-Led Relationship so that your needs, preferences and authority would shape the household.
Yet somehow you are responsible for keeping a kneeling man emotionally inflated.
That was not in the brochure.
And more praise will not fix it. Reassurance poured into insecurity has vanished by morning. You are not withholding too much, darling. You are pouring into a vessel with a hole in the bottom and getting your stockings wet.
Give him standards, not constant verdicts
Clear structure does help, though.
If your expression is the only instrument he has, naturally he will keep reading it. Give him something more useful.
Not “look after me.” That sounds romantic but leaves the poor creature guessing all day. Be specific.
The bed is made by eight. Your glass is refreshed before it is empty. The car is refuelled every Sunday. He does not sit until you have. You do not repeat instructions.
He should be able to judge whether he has met the standard without crawling back for a verdict.
Then stop rewarding every completed task. When he brings your drink, accept it. You do not owe him a smile, a compliment and a biscuit because he successfully located the gin.
Your praise should arrive when you choose.
Call him closer later. Slide your fingers beneath his chin. Make him hold your gaze before you tell him he has been very good.
Then your approval is a gift.
Not a receipt.
And because he was not tugging at your hem for it, you may find yourself wanting to be rather more generous.
You cannot lend him a spine
Standards can tell a man where he stands. They cannot do the standing for him.
You can define his duties, establish consequences and give his submission firm edges. You cannot manufacture his inner strength.
He must bring some ground of his own into the relationship: his own purpose, self-respect and ability to remain steady when you are busy, cool or simply not thinking about him.
A man with his own ground beneath him can kneel without falling.
Much more appealing.
This is the version that lasts
Neediness does not merely make submission less attractive. It makes the relationship less durable.
Women seldom tire of being beautifully served. They tire of carrying the man doing the serving.
The strong version lasts because his submission is not powered by her constant approval. He gives more, demands less emotional maintenance and remains the capable man she wanted beneath her authority in the first place.
She gets more of him.
And, because he has made himself so deliciously easy to be generous with, he often gets more of her.
Friday, again
The same chair, the same gin, the same man at your feet.
Only now, the silence is not a question.
He is not waiting for you to tell him he belongs there. He knows your standards, knows his place and possesses the strength to kneel without asking you to carry him.
Secure. Capable. Quietly masculine.
A whole man, choosing to yield to a woman.
Now that is attractive from where you are sitting.

A very useful definition thank you.
Dearest Cat: As usual there is much wisdom in what you have written. I would hazard to guess that in the vast majority of FLRelationships, the male is neither entirely needy nor entirely secure. BUT the more comfortable the male is in his own submissive skin, the more he is likely to be secure . . . and thus truly by of useful service to a woman. It takes guts (dare I say balls) for a man to admit to himself and his partner that he only feels whole when he happily, gratefully and fully yields control of his life to a strong woman. But the sooner and more completely he admits this fundamental need (if it is indeed what he desires in the depth of his soul) the better for both of them.
Hallo David. Yes yes and yes, you know me so well. At walking on public streets I often think ‘which woman could I serve’
I was so happy at my last flr; never again a just common one.
I have long understood that men who are at their best when submitting to the will and wisdom of strong women are those of us who are secure and confident in our submission. As a submissive male, I offer my obedience to a woman from a position of strength – not weakness. I would not want to submit to a dominant woman who saw me as weak; only one who values my strength. As always, thank you for this thoughtfully articulated post, Ms. Boulder.

Dear Car Boulder
Thank you for that lessen.
I guess that was one of the reasons why my flr’s have failed
Kneeling greetings

male neediness is a sure sign of immaturity as the male craving for sexual arousal is the center of it. A male who learns of the true nature of Feminine power, recognizes it as something to be submitted to and worshiped, knows full well that his neediness is irrelevant, it makes him weak. A strong, confident, mature male bows to Female power without expectation other than being of service to Her needs. That is a males true life purpose.
